George V, silver coin pendant and earring set
Designed and hand made by Tishpa in the Causeway Coast area of Northern Ireland.
All my pieces are unique and handcrafted.
Silver pre decimal coins, at least 50% silver, sterling silver 92.5% jump rings, sterling silver chain
The last general circulation British coins to have a silver content were issued in 1946. Before the 1919/20 issue, silver coins contained 92.5 % silver. Following a steep rise in the cost of silver, coins after the 1919/20 issues were reduced to a silver content of a minimum 50%.
The two 3D and one 6D coins used to make this set were issued in 1835, thus they are made of at least 50% silver. They are George V, pre decimal coins, sometimes referred to as benders. The 3D coins measure 1.5 x 1.5 cm in size and the 6D 1.9 x 1.9 cm. Fancy twisted sterling silver jump rings are attached to the top of the coins to allow attachment of, ear hooks for the earrings and twisted jump ring bail and sterling silver chain for the pendant.
The chain measures 46 cm in length
The coins feature a design of, three oak eaves and acorns, a date of 1935 and the words Three Pence, or Six Pence on the front. ( This is pre decimal three pence, 3D, which has value in todays coinage of 1.25p ). The back of the coins feature the profile of George V.
These pieces are a little bit of history as well as an attractive, fairly unique set of jewellery.
